Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett suffered a massive tragedy when his 2-year-old daughter drowned in the family home's swimming pool in south Tampa on Sunday morning.

The Tampa Police Department said officers were called to the Buccaneers star's home in the Beach Park area just before 9:30 a.m. because a child reportedly fell in a pool.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, lifesaving measures were taken to try and save Arrayah Barrett's life. She was taken to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead a short time later despite all the efforts to save her.

The Tampa Bay Police Department is still investigating the incident. But it is believed that the child falling into the pool was "purely accidental," and not "suspicious in nature" at this time.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers React to the Death of Shaquil Barrett's Daughter

The 30-year-old linebacker is already in his fifth season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after signing as a free agent in 2019, even winning the Super Bowl with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in 2021. The team released a statement following the death of his daughter.

"Today's tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time," the Buccaneers said.

"While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah," the team added.

According to ESPN, Arrayah Barrett was the youngest of Shaquil Barrett's four children. She was born only two months after her father and his team defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

As for her father, Shaquil Barrett, a star linebacker, was named to the Pro Bowl twice. He even led the NFL in most sacks in 2019. However, his 2022 season was cut short after he tore his Achilles tendon.

Following news of the death of his daughter, Shaquil Barrett and his family received plenty of condolences and prayers on social media. Other NFL teams like the New England Patriots, the Denver Broncos, and people from all walks of life have sent their condolences to the grieving family.
