Antony Blinken Swore He Never Emailed Hunter Biden Despite Evidence on Laptop
U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken told a Senate committee in December 2020 that he never emailed President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, despite emails between the two found on Hunter's laptop.
Blinken's statement sparked Republican allegations that Blinken committed perjury weeks before he formally joined the president's cabinet, the New York Post reported.
A staff member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee asked Blinken in December 2020 if he ever talked with Hunter on the phone, to which the State Secretary replied, "Not that I recall."
The staff investigator also asked if he had any other means of correspondence with him, like emails or texts, to which Blinken replied, "No." He then described his relationship with the president's son as a "friendly acquaintanceship."
However, Hunter's laptop showed that on May 22, 2015, Hunter had emailed Blinken's AOL account to ask if he had time the following week "to grab a cup of coffee."
Hunter added that he knew Blinken was busy but would like to get his "advice on a couple of things." Blinken emailed back and said, "Absolutely," adding that he was "just about to land in Tokyo en route back D.C. from Burma."
He then noted: "I'll be in office from Tuesday on. Copying Linda in my office to find a good time. Look forward to seeing you."
Antony Blinken Tells a 'Boldface Lie'
GOP Senator Ron Johnson accused Antony Blinken of telling Congress a "boldface lie" about his communications with the president's son.
Johnson told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that as more information came out, they now knew that Blinken "lied boldface to Congress" about never emailing Hunter Biden, Daily Mail reported.
The GOP senator noted that he believes the State Secretary lied under oath, adding that Blinken needs to be subpoenaed, which could only happen if the Democrats will support it.
"My guess is he told a bunch of other lies that hopefully we'll be able to bring him and his wife back in, tell them to preserve their records. You cannot trust Joe Biden. You cannot trust Hunter Biden," Johnson told Bartiromo on Sunday.
The Republican senator added that emails from the president's son's laptop also showed Blinken's wife, Evan Ryan, had contact with Hunter.
"He [Blinken] said he did not email Hunter Biden, and now we have those emails. We also know that his wife, using her private email address when she was a[n] employee of the State Department, was basically a conduit between her husband and Hunter Biden as well," Johnson noted.
It is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison if one is found lying to Congress. The Justice Department will make the final decision in such matters. The contents of Hunter's laptop have sparked debate and controversy.
The laptop was abandoned at a Delaware computer shop in 2019. It was then used by former President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani as evidence of supposed corruption among the Biden family.
Hunter Biden: Another Controversy
As part of a paternity-related case, an Arkansas judge noted on Monday that Hunter Biden will need to sit for a sworn deposition and answer additional written questions about his investments, art sales, and other financial transactions.
CNN reported that Hunter's attorney, Abbe Lowell, noted that his client is paying $20,000 monthly child support and has given Lunden Roberts, the mother of their four-year-old daughter, $750,000 in total.
Lowell told the judge that he wanted to disprove recent tabloid headlines calling Hunter a "deadbeat dad," and he wanted to "let the world know" that Hunter is "paying what is agreed to."
Hunter Biden personally attended the hearing in Arkansas on Monday. The hearing was called after the president's son asked to reduce the monthly payments.
A trial is scheduled for July in Batesville town; if the parties don't agree to adjust the monthly payments.
