Taylor Swift was supposed to perform her second of three Eras Tour concerts at Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday. However, the singer was forced to postpone her next two performances, citing heat. This announcement to postpone her concerts also came after a fan died during her first performance in the country since the pandemic.

The music superstar wrote about her decision on social media, saying that it was the "extreme temperatures in Rio" that forced her to postpone. "I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium," she wrote.

"The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and will always come first," she wrote after one fan died during her first performance.

PEOPLE Magazine pointed out that Tay-Tay has not specified new days yet, though event organizer Time for Fun revealed in a statement soon after the Taylor Swift announcement that the show has been rescheduled to Monday and that all tickets to Saturday's performance are still valid for this new date.

Fans had braved extreme heat just to watch Taylor Swift perform, with reports of organizers banning water inside the venue popping up all over social media after the fan died. The incident has sparked shock all over Brazil, as well as outrage.

Fans Complained About Venue Conditions During Taylor Swift Eras Tour Brazil Concert

The fan who died during the first Brazil performance was identified as 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado, whose body is still currently being examined as a criminal investigation into her death has now been opened.

The outrage at her death got politicians involved, and a group even launched an online petition on Sunday morning, calling for a "Benevides Law" to "make water in events mandatory." This comes as fans who attended the concert complained they were not allowed to take water into Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium despite the searing heat.

Benevides reportedly was treated by paramedics at the venue after she reported that she was not feeling well. She was then taken to a first-aid center and then to a hospital. An hour after arriving at the hospital, however, she died.

Fans told the media of "sauna-like conditions" inside the stadium as Taylor Swift performed. This comes as Brazil was experiencing a record-breaking and dangerous heatwave, with temperatures reaching 39.1 degrees Celsius on Friday.

One fan told Time Magazine, "It was extremely hot. My hair got so wet from sweat as soon as I came in," adding, "There was a point at which I had to check my breathing to make sure I wasn't going to pass out."

Taylor Swift Responds to Fan's Death During Her Concert

As for her reaction to the death of her fan during her concert, Taylor Swift noted that she would not address the death from the stage, saying that this was "because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."

"I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends," she added, according to the Associated Press.

Prior to this, she also took to social media on Friday after the incident, writing, "I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it's with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show," adding, "I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this."

"There's very little information I have other than the fact she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," she wrote.
