The FBI is investigating reports that members of the Colorado State Supreme Court are receiving death threats after they ruled that Donald Trump must be disqualified from the state ballot as was ruled by the 14th Amendment that disqualifies him for instigating the January 6 Capitol Insurrection.

"The FBI is aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement," FBI Public Affairs Officer Vikki Migoya told CNN in a statement on Monday. "We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation."

Meanwhile, the Colorado Judicial Branch would not comment on the reports of death threats against the state justices while Master Trooper Gary Cutler, a spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol noted that any threats against judges would be handled by local Colorado state authorities.

On Thursday evening, the Denver Police Department t responded to a state justice's home on Thursday evening. However, it may just have been a "hoax report" as the DPD stated, "Everything checked clear and we are continuing to investigate this report. Due to security and privacy considerations, and the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide any additional information at this time."

Threats against the Colorado justices have been posted all over the internet, mainly on sites frequented by pro-Trump right-wing extremists. Federal, State, and local law enforcement, as well as non-government research groups, are also monitoring g rhetoric on extremist online forums to find possible threats against the justices. This came after the names of the four Colorado Supreme Court justices who ruled to disqualify Trump from the ballot were mentioned in "incendiary" posts on such forums.

These posts threatened to expose the judges' personal data and open them up to threats to their lives. While no specific threats to the judges have been found yet, an analysis has shown that there remains a risk of lone actor or small group violence or other illegal activities in response to the ruling."

Donald Trump May Start a Crisis of Legitimacy in the US Supreme Court

While Donald Trump is dealing with a disqualification from the Colorado Supreme Court, he may soon face the Supreme Court himself. However, there is one problem with that as he packed the highest court in the land with his own appointees, appointing three justices during his 4-year term.

The now conservative majority in the Supreme Court may rule on issues regarding Trump's various criminal and civil cases and The Guardian noted that should Trump win a second term, it might pose an existential threat to the conservative majority.

This is because conservative judges, the Supreme Court justices included, tend to follow the doctrine of originalism and textualism, which means that they usually tend to go as what the original writers of the law intended. However, with the question of his immunity, the justices must abandon that doctrine if they are to save him as the framers of the 14th Amendment, while not placing it directly in the law, have stated in arguments recorded in the US Senate, that any officer, including the president, would be disqualified should he commit insurrection.

Donald Trump Continues His Angry Christmas Rant

As the Colorado Supreme Court faces possible death threats and the US Supreme Court wrestles with questions about Donald Trump's disqualification due to the 14th Amendment, Donald Trump himself has continued his Christmas Day rant.

"THEY SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN, LIED TO CONGRESS, CHEATED ON FISA, RIGGED A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ALLOWED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, MANY FROM PRISONS & MENTAL INSTITUTIONS, TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY, SCREWED UP IN AFGHANISTAN, & JOE BIDEN'S MISFITS & THUGS, LIKE DERANGED JACK SMITH, ARE COMING AFTER ME, AT LEVELS OF PERSECUTION NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN OUR COUNTRY??? IT'S CALLED ELECTION INTERFERENCE. MERRY CHRISTMAS!" he wrote on Christmas Eve.

However, CNN pointed out that most of Trump's claims are false since many of his claims were already debunked, as well as questionable, as many of his claims in this rant were presented with little to no evidence to back them up.
