A US winter storm has brought massive amounts of snowfall, as well as some tornadoes, in much of the North Eastern United States. Severe weather is also hammering the Gulf Coast and the southeastern US.

The Storm Prediction Center stated that around 70 million people in the Southeast are at risk for severe weather, including tornadoes, damaging wind, and flooding rain.

To make matters worse, just days after the first big winter storm in the country, another big winter storm is on its way, and it is expected to bring heavy snow, blizzard conditions, strong winds, potential tornadoes, and serious flooding.

According to CNN, the Storm Prediction Center has now placed three major cities on Level 3 of 5 enhanced risk. These cities are New Orleans in Louisiana, Gulfport in Mississippi, and Mobile in Alabama. Storms are expected to sweep across the area in the afternoon and overnight, with tornadoes being likely. Excessive rainfall with a chance of flooding is also possible.

The storm is expected to move further east on Tuesday, with the cities of Tallahassee, Florida, Albany, Georgia, and Panama City, Florida, being at an enhanced risk of severe weather. This severe weather is expected to happen from the early morning to the afternoon.

These severe winter storm warnings came just after a massive winter storm slammed into the North East, bringing in rain, snow, ice, and even a tornado as the storm moved from the Gulf Coast to Maine.

1st Massive US Winter Storm of 2024 Blanketed North East With Snow

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued in the North East since last Saturday across a dozen states. This includes New York, where plenty of posts about the heavy snowfall hit social media, showing Central Park in New York City being blanketed in snow.

"The combination of heavy, wet snow and gusty winds from northeast Pennsylvania through much of southern and central New England will result in difficult travel with some power outages and tree damage," reported the National Weather Service. "Gusty onshore winds may lead to minor flooding along the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England coasts during the Sunday morning high tide cycle."

While there are massive snowstorms further north, cold winter rain fell on some big cities, including Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland. Meanwhile, southwestern Pennsylvania received six inches of snow; Pittsburgh received three inches of snow.

US Winter Storms Brought a Tornado in Florida

Even South Florida was not safe from the winter storms as a tornado touched down in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. This came shortly after the National Weather Service issued a warning for the area.

According to USA Today, the twister was formed over land and hit the ground at around 6:00 PM just west of Las Olas Boulevard and the Intracoastal Waterway. The tornado caused power outages in its wake, with firefighters still assessing how much damage it has caused.

As for the power, Florida Power & Light is restoring power to some affected areas.
