Itati Cantoral Telenovelas: Actress Rumored to Be Starring in 'Dos Mujeres, Un Camino' Remake
Itati Cantoral may be making her big return to telenovelas.
It is rumored that "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino" will be remade by producer Emilio Larrosa, notes TV y Novelas. The original series starred Erik Estrada, who was in love with two women played by Laura Leon and Bibi Gaytan.
Cantoral starred in "Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe," which was produced by Larrosa. The telenovela was a success, so Larrosa may be shooting for that same kind of reception.
The show is supposed to start filming at the beginning of 2015, but Cantoral, who has said she will be starring in another telenovela, did not confirm it would be for "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino."
Others believe that Cantoral will go back to work with Larrosa, but that it will be a remake of "Gutierritos."
"Gutierritos" first aired in 1958, and "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino" was on TV about 20 years ago.
The Erik Estrada-fronted show featured the actor as Johnny, a truck driver. He is a married man, who falls in love with another woman during one of his truck stops.
The show includes the then-new North American Free Trade Agreement as a theme, with Johnny transporting Mexican goods into the United States.
On top of being in a love triangle, he also has enemies in Tijuana. He is blamed for a young man's death.
It's later discovered that he didn't kill anyone, and he is just left trying to decide between his wife and his girlfriend.
In the meantime, Cantoral will be starring in the remake of the musical, "Mame."
Cantoral never got to see Silvia Pinal in the role in the 1970s, but she knows that she will be compared to her.
"Thinking of Silvia Pinal fills me with admiration and, of course, a challenge," she said. "It's like the time that I took on a character played by Liza Minnelli. Everyone thought about 'Cabaret' and Liza. For me, it was something very big."
