Jay Z purchased the Armand de Brignac Champagne 'Ace of Spades,' a drink he helped gain recognition through his music.

For years, he referenced the brand in his music videos flashing the bottle that has an 'Ace of Spades' logo on it.

"We are proud to announce that Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company owned by the Berish family, has sold its interest in the Armand de Brignac, 'Ace of Spades' Champagne brand to a new company led by the globally renowned Shawn 'Jay Z' Carter," the company said in a statement.

"We have had a wonderful relationship with Jay Z throughout the years since he first discovered Armand de Brignac," the head of communications for Sovereign Brands Yvonne Lardner said. "He became interested in owning the brand and made us an offer we simply couldn't refuse."

The Armand de Brignac Champagne brand was introduced to the market in 2006.

That year, the managing director of a company behind Cristal made comments that sparked debate in the Hip Hop community.

Frederic Rouzaud said in an interview with The Economist, "What can we do? We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."

His comments were directed toward a statement about Cristal being associated with the Hip Hop community.

After his comments, Jay Z boycotted the brand in his 40/40 club and personal life, referring to Rouzaud's comments as racist.

Months later, the rapper featured the 'Ace of Spades' bottle in a music video at a time the brand was unknown.

The company that produces the champagne, Sovereign Brands, denied any official affiliation with Jay Z at the time.

Jay Z rapped on his "Blueprint 3" single  "On To The Next One," "I used to drink Cristal, the muh'f**ker's racist, So I switched to gold bottles, on to that Spade shit."

The company previously marketed a brand called 3 Vodka with rapper Jermaine Dupri.
