Fifty Shades of Grey Charlie Hunnam Update: Will He Quit The Role After 70,000 Fans Signed Petition To Replace Him?
For Fifty Shades of Grey star Charlie Hunnam, news over the weekend did not go well. Recent reports stated that the newly-cast actor for the Christian Grey role may be taken out after about 70,000 fans signed a petition against him. Most of the fans wanted Matt Bomer instead for the highly coveted role, Enstarz wrote.
It can be recalled that there was an outcry of disappointment when the casting decisions were revealed on September 2, IBTimes shared. Recent rumors include the actor being given additional security at another season premier of his television series. Sources from Universal Studios allegedly said that it was to protect Fifty Shades of Grey Charlie Hunnam not just from obsessed followers but also from the ones who turned irate of the casting decisions.
According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, the information remains a rumour at present moment but it was the site that mentioned the number of Matt Bomer loyalists who started the request. If this proves true, then it can be very unfortunate for the 33-year-old actor who already mentioned that he shares great chemistry with future co-star Dakota Johnson, who is set to play Anastasia Steele.
"There's just a tangible chemistry between us. It felt exciting and fun and weird and compelling," he shared with People Magazine. It is part of the actor's plans to focus on the film series once his television show Sons of Anarchy ends.
Kelly Marcel, the Fifty Shades of Grey screenwriter is reported to be sticking to the original content of the book series by EL James which became popular for its controversial sex theme. The film adaptation is expected to hit the theaters by August 1, 2014.
