A southern California teen saved his 4-year-old sister from a kidnap attempt Saturday, ABC news reported.

The 13-year-old saw his sister being picked up by the suspect, and immediately ran after her, grabbed her other hand, and yelled out for someone to call 911, CBS Los Angeles reported. His quick thinking prevented the suspect from escaping.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office deputies were patrolling a street in Lancaster when they were flagged down for a report of a possible kidnapping, and directed towards the suspect, ABC reported.

The suspect had been seen near the home, pacing, and was observed entering the fenced-in yard, CBS Los Angeles reported. He was then seen asking the girl for her name.

The suspect then reached down and grabbed her. That is when the brother was alerted and ran to grab her arm and scream for help.

The suspect, Earl Williams, was still in the neighborhood when police came to the scene.

Williams, 61, from Lancaster, was being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday.

He is being charged with kidnapping, rather than a charge of attempted kidnapping, since he had physically lifted the girl up before being caught.

Eyewitnesses said Williams had been seen lurking in the neighborhood just before the attempted kidnapping.

One neighbor told The Inquisitr, "He was just calling me, 'Hey, come here. Come here.' I don't know this guy, never seen him before. He was already talking to himself when me and my son came outside, so I'm just like, 'Okay, this is really weird."

The girl was not hurt, but was startled by the whole episode.

"Just startled, very scared," Deputy Amber Leist said told ABC, adding that she was a "smart little girl"

Her brother is being hailed as the hero of the day.

"He was definitely quick on his feet," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Mighuel Ruiz told Los Angeles station KABC-TV. "He's very responsible for his family and obviously his 4-year-old sister. So at this point, he is our hero for today."
