The Colts found the scoreboard first, but the Chargers got the last laugh en route to a 19-9 victory on the road for San Diego.

Maybe the Indianapolis Colts were just looking too far in advance last night, especially with the undefeated Denver Broncos coming to town next month. But more than anything else, it seemed like the San Diego Chargers simply showed up to play football.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers enjoyed the primetime spotlight and completed 22 of 33 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown just a week after the wheels fell off against Oakland. Rivers threw three interceptions against Oakland but went without any picks on Monday night.

"We didn't go into the game saying, 'Let's play ball control,' " Rivers said according to the Associated Press. "We wanted to score as many points as we could. We didn't score that many, but we did sustain drives. I thought Keenan Allen stepped up big. They were doubling Gatesy (Antonio Gates) a lot, and Danny Woodhead stepped up big. The offensive line was great. That's the way we need to be able to run the football. If we can mix the run in, we got a chance."

Allen finished the game with 9 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. Woodhead had 5 catches for 47 yards.

Not only did San Diego's offense step up, the defense put on a display. The Colts' offense failed time and time again on third down as the Chargers' defensive unit held up Andrew Luck.

"We stunk on third down today," Luck said. "A lot of credit to their defense. I think we made our fair share of mistakes, but I think it's what they did."

The Colts will have a full plate this week when the team faces an old foe in Peyton Manning. The Broncos will travel to Indianapolis with hopes to stay undefeated while the Chargers will have a much easier opponent in the Jacksonville Jaguars.
