NBC will bench the popular comedy series Parks and Recreation for a majority of the show's sixth season. The network that canceled two of its freshmen series last week, Ironside and Welcome to the Family, has decided to replace the next week's planned episode of Parks and Recreation with a rerun of The Voice, and the following week will air a SNL Halloween clip show. The week after, The Voice is scheduled to offer an extended live episode on November 7th.

The next two, and last, episodes to air this year, will appear back-to-back on the evenings of November 14 and November 21. In the new year, the January 2 scheduled slot for Parks will be foregone for the one-hour return of Community, and Parks will return to us that coming week, on January 9.

The intention of the hiatus is to increase viewership for Sean Saves the World, starring Sean Hayes, Megan Hilty and Linda Lavin. The network hopes that the Thursday 8pm slot will be more successful for Sean than it has been for Parks, who has struggled with Nielsen ratings during its entire run.

Park and Recreation starring Amy Poehler is a single-camera mockumentary that follows the parks department in a fictional town named Pawnee, and the funny and interesting characters that run the department and live in the town.

The January 9 episode will be the show show's 100 episode, making it more viable for syndication, thusly potentially earning them more viewers. NBC hasn't guaranteed the show's place in the lineup, but even if the show does stay, the imminent departure of Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, is sure to sadden fans.
