Elder Scrolls Online: Game Being Relaunched as Tamriel Unlimited; See New and Improved Features [Watch]
The Elder Scrolls Online -- a series of Tolkien-like action role-playing fantasy video games developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks -- will have its relaunch on March 17.
And in an effort to showcase all of the new and improved features for the game, which will now be called Tamriel Unlimited, the company released a new trailer.
This trailer comes with a warning for blood and gore and booze though seems fairly mild for a commercial that really just shows a lot of Force-looking lighting, a cat-faced woman and several elf-like guys crossing their arms in indignation.
There is no version available through the official Zenimax Online channel.
The trailer informs potential gamers of the new system changes, additions and upgrades and highlights some new aspects that were first announced at last summer’s QuakeCon.
According to Owen S. Good of Polygon, “The Elder Scrolls Online did not have a glorious first year.”
Elaborating, he wrote, “while the MMO counts around a million current subscribers, critics were indifferent to much of what it offered (Polygon scored the game a 6.0) and promised launches on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were delayed by a year. They will now launch on June 9.”
Zenimax announced in January it was revamping the MMO as The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.
In effect the company was going to drop the standard subscription model for a one-time fee. They would then introduce premium subscription options that deliver additional, recurring in-game benefits.
David Ewalt at Forbes says the move was totally predictable, saying the game was in trouble from day one.
“The problem, as we saw it, is that there was no way the company could sustain a subscription-only service; gamers would just not be willing to pay,” Ewalt said.
