Breaking Bad Prequel 2014: Jonathan Banks, Known as Mike, Joins 'Better Call Saul'; Bryan Cranston & Aaron Paul To Follow?
Breaking Bad fans were left wondering what to do with their lives after the show ended. Thanks to Better Call Saul, a prequel spinoff of the show based on the corrupt lawyer featured in Breaking Bad, fans will get a chance to enjoy some of their favorite characters yet again.
While Saul Goodman -- played by Bob Odenkirk -- was an obvious character in the new show, Mike Ehrmantraut will also return for the prequel. Played by Jonathan Banks, Ehrmantraut is known as a former police officer that later turned into a hit man and private investigator. Considering how the authorities were suspicious of Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad after he was involved with a notorious drug ring, it will most certainly be exciting to see what kind of things Mike was up to before Heisenberg was ever around.
As for the other characters in the show -- such as Jesse Pinkman and Walter White -- it is unclear whether we will see them. However, Aaron Paul sounded optimistic in an interview with Details Magazine earlier this month.
"Both Bryan (Cranston) and I want to be a part of that. If they'll have us," he said.
The creators of the incoming show are well aware of the huge impact it would be to have both Cranston and Paul featured in a show together again. It would be nostalgic to some degree but yet the irony of it all is that it will actually be a flashback to before anything happened in Breaking Bad. With this being said, however, the show's creators have not ruled out the possibility of Better Call Saul running into the same time period as Breaking Bad.
Fans are surely hoping for other key characters to the return to the show as well. If Gus Fring makes an appearance (or more!) in Better Call Saul, it could be a perfect storm of characters to create yet another instant hit show.
Which other characters do you think will be making an appearance in the prequel? Do you think the show will be as good as Breaking Bad or will it be a disappointment? Let us know in the comments section below.
