"WWE SmackDown" was taped from Portland, Oregon, and the show featured a main event filled with former indy-circuit wrestlers.

With the show taking place in Portland, the family of late WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper were in the audience. A tribute video also aired, although it is unknown of this segment will air on Thursday's broadcast.

The official start of the show included WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. His promo was simply to showcase how great he is and called for United States Champion John Cena to accept his title vs. title match at "SummerSlam." Cena did not appear since he was in Florida for "Tough Enough." Neville interrupted Rollins, and the former wants a title shot for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Cesaro then appeared, but his time was cut short as Kevin Owens attacked him. At the same time, Rollins attacked Neville. These four WWE Superstars will compete in a tag-team match in the main event.

The divas had the honor of having the first match of the show. Charlotte defeated Naomi via submission.

A video package aired featuring the rivalry between Stardust and "Arrow" star Stephen Amell. Last Monday, Amell tackled Stardust after the latter pushed the actor. At "SummerSlam," Stardust and King Barrett will team against Amell and Neville.

Intercontinental Champion Ryback made his "SmackDown" return, after a staph infection sidelined him for several weeks. He cut a promo promoting his triple-threat match against Big Show and The Miz at "SummerSlam." Bo Dallas appeared and demanded to be added to the triple-threat match. Instead, Ryback attacked him to end the segment.

Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper are next to deliver a promo ahead of their "SummerSlam" match against Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. On "SmackDown," Harper had a match against Reigns, but it ended in disqualification after Wyatt broke a pin.

WWE Tag Team Champions The Prime Time Players defeated The New Day in a non-title match. The two teams will compete against each other at "SummerSlam" in a fatal-4-way match including Los Matadores and The Lucha Dragons for the tag titles.

It's main event time with Rollins and Owens against Cesaro and Neville. Rollins secured the victory for his team after grabbing a handful of Cesaro's tights to secure the pin.

"WWE SmackDown" airs weekly on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on SyFy.
