The iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display are versatile devices. You can find myriad ways to use the tablet, whether it be for work or play. Yet, the iPad lineup doesn't do everything. They don't have keyboards so typing becomes a laborious process and they don't come with any kind or scuff protection so you'll be needing a case.

Before you read any further it might be helpful to know some of the better iDevice accessory makers in business today. Right off the bat three companies come to mind: Zagg, Logitech and Belkin. Just in case you drop your iPad, it's always better to be protected from the elements and your own clumsiness. But with so many cases out on the market today selecting one it's more of a chore than you may think. Apple's own smart case is a great choice. Unlike the smart cover it provides full body protection for your iPad. The ZAGGfolio, Belkin Ultimate Keyboard, and Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio are great choices as well.

Docks

Owning a reliable dock for your iPad is almost a necessity. Apple makes their own iPad dock, but they haven't bothered updating it since the iPad 3 landed in retail stores two years ago. The iPad Air is significantly lighty and thinner than the iPad 3 and it deserves a dock that fits it like a glove.

iHome produces durable, competitively priced dock/alarm/radio combinations that charge up to three iDevices at once. I've owned an iHome in the past and I wouldn't travel with it lest you wish to spend more money on baggage. These docks are heavy blocks of well-engineered goodness. Charging Solutions

Yeah the iPad gets good battery, up to 10 hours in fact, but that's not enough for intercontinental flights, all day gaming sessions, or binge viewing House of Cards season 2 on Netflix. So let's face it you need a battery and charging solution that's going to get you back up and running fast.

The Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation External Battery is a good buy at $79.99. It features a respectable 4000mAh battery that can fully charge the iPad completely before depleting. Also, hit up ZAGG again for other great mobile charging solutions.

Standalone keyboards

If you buy one of Apple's all-in-one iMac desktop computers you'll be the proud new owner of the magnificent wireless keyboard it comes bundled with. You can take that very keyboard with you anywhere you go and pair to your iPad via Bluetooth.

You may think bringing along a keyboard for an iPad is silly, but trust me, you won't when you have to fire a dozen different e-mails to a dozen different clients. You may have the fastest hands in the galaxy, but all that speed is negated due to the iPad's touchscreen.

Other bluetooth keyboards work as well. For the best experience try getting keyboard that supports Bluetooth 2.0 or later.

Miscellaneous
