Murder-Suicide Leaves 2 Dead at Florida Hospital Shooting
A man killed himself after murdering his stepdaughter at Florida Hospital in Tampa on Monday morning.
The Tampa Tribune reports 70-year-old Steven Reynolds shot his 41-year-old stepdaughter, Alonna Tedesco, before turning the gun on himself.
Police rushed to the scene, where Reyonlds was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Donna Lusczynski, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Tedesco was taken to the emergency room but later died of her injures.
"We're all very saddened by this," said Kerry Tedesco, daughter-in-law of the victim.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Alonna was visiting her mother, Mary Reynolds, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The shooting occurred on the third floor of the hospital, around 7:00 am in the morning.
The hospital was not placed on lockdown, and operations were able to resume as usual.
Detectives are currently trying to determine the motive of the shooting. Hospital surveillance may aid the investigation.
Reports say Alonna was a registered nurse with the Florida Medical Clinic. She was married to Dr. John Tedesco, an osteopathic physician who also worked for the Florida for the clinic.
The couple lived together at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club neighborhood near Dade City, where Alonna was well known and cherished by the community.
"I can't imagine the neighborhood -- or the world -- without Alonna," said neighbor Jeanie Weightman. "She was the heart of the neighborhood.
Alonna also worked as school nurse for Hudson Middle and High schools.
"As much as this tragedy saddens the Pasco County Schools family, it also affects Mrs. Browning and me personally," said Pasco County Schools Superintendent Kurt S. Browning in a statement. "We have known Alonna for many years and are shocked to learn of her horrific passing. She was a good friend and a talented professional. Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family."
