Android M 6.0 Marshmallow Update Release Date: Moto X Pure (Style) OTA Rollout Begins in the US
Motorola has announced that it has finished testing and preparations for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (a.k.a. Style) smartphones in the U.S.
Third generation Moto X users on Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, or U.S. Cellular should begin receiving OTA update notifications immediately, according to Motorola's official announcement.
Motorola's David Schuster had the pleasure of announcing the company had started to "fully rollout Android Marshmallow 6.0 upgrade on 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen)" in a post on Tuesday on his Google Plus page. Schuster also noted that soak tests -- or limited trials run to find and fix any final bugs -- for Android M had begun in Brazil and India for the retail 2015 Moto X Force and 2015 Moto X Play, respectively.
Schuster first mentioned that only third generation Moto X Pure Edition handsets for Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular were part of the rollout. But later that day some users commenting on 9to5Google's post about the update noted they were able to download the Android M upgrade on their 2015 Moto X Pure devices from AT&T.
In a later update to his announcement, Schuster confirmed the quickly-expanded OTA rollout. "I am happy to report that we are continuing the full deployment of Android Marshmallow 6.0 upgrade on 2014 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen) on AT&T." The same handset under a different name, the 2015 Moto X Style, is also now receiving the Android M update in Latin America, he added.
According to a subsequent update obtained by Android Police, 2015 Motorola Moto E handsets -- first omitted from Motorola's list of devices to receive Android Marshmallow -- are now slated to receive Android 6.0, eventually. The only catch is that the update will only be available for 2015 Moto E handsets in Latin America, Canada, Europe, and parts of Asia. The U.S. and China are still excluded from the update list.
