Five Nights at Freddy's News: Scott Cawthon Announces Novel Based on Game
In addition to a RPG spinoff, a movie, and a toy line, Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon officially announced Saturday that a novelization of the hit horror game series is on the way.
Cawthon explained his plans for the novel, temporarily titled "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Untold Story," on the game's Steam forum.
"This is not something recent; I've been working alongside a professional writer for the last ten months crafting this story," Cawthon wrote. "I'm very excited about the finished product. It expands the mythos and reveals a human element never before seen in the games."
"The Untold Story" was also noted to be a placeholder name. He said the official title will be revealed on the Dec. 15.
According to a previous post by the game creator, the book will be available on Amazon first. That means owners of the Kindle device, or the Kindle app avaliable on Android and iOS, or PC and Mac, will be able to read it first.
According to Kotaku, the ebook is scheduled to launch Dec. 22. A hardcover copy is expected to hit store shelves sometime in 2016.
Although Cawthon has opened himself to questions online, he has not yet commented on the plot of the novel. It's uncertain if the story will be told from the perspective of the security guard protagonist, or if it will focus more on the titular Freddy and his bloodthirsty friends.
It will be interesting to see if Cawthon will delve deeper into the established lore of the series. While there have been hints, no one knows for sure what causes the puppets at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza to come to life, and why they stalk our unlucky protagonist.
Five Nights at Freddy's was released in 2014, and has since garnered a massive following, spawning three sequels and an upcoming RPG spinoff.
