World's Most Obese Man Andrés Moreno Dies of Heart Attack in Mexico
The 38-year-old Mexican Andres Moreno made the headlines as it was reported that the world's most obese man finally passed away at a young age. Moreno lost around 978 pounds, but died just two months after his surgery in Mexico.
Though his surgery was followed by his death, doctors stated that his heart attack was not due to the medical procedure. His attending physician, José Castañeda, told EFE that his death was unexpected as per Latino Fox News report.
Back in November, Moreno told EFE that he is ready to lose weight. He stated that, "I start a journey that must carry me to a new phase of life, a new chapter and I hope to a new book altogether, different and far from the prison that my own body has become, overcome this step and be someone with a normal body. To have a second chance, my Christmas gift a little early."
It was reported that Moreno went through surgical procedure on October 28. It was said that the procedure took place in Arboledas Hospital's Gastric Bypass Center in Guadalajara. As per Latino Fox News, the 38-year-old lost more than 132 pounds after his biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. It was also said that his other illnesses related to his obesity such as high blood pressure and diabetes were under control in relation to his weight loss.
As per Castañeda, who is a well-known specialist of his field, told the reporters via phone patch:
"It was something we had not considered because of all the kilos he had lost due to the surgery, which would allow him to reduce the risk of a heart attack."
Though Moreno already lost almost 570 pounds, he is still being considered as "morbidly obese" because of his remaining weight. Castañeda then stated that his weight still couldn't help his health as he is still physically unfit. He stressed that despite Moreno's weight loss, it did not "free him of this type of complication."
Just last month, Moreno underwent another operation to have his hernia removed. This being said, his hernia affected his intestines. Just this Saturday, it was reported that his death was caused by a heart attack and the problems that surfaced are related to peritonitis. Moreno did not exhibit any complications as of Christmas Eve as his attending physician stated that he's been closely monitoring his health status over the past three days before his passing.
As per EFE, Moreno will be buried in Sunday in Navoja, Sonoraas per his friend, Carmen Palacios.
