Former wrestling superstar CM Punk is all geared up to debut in another, albeit different, stage. The WWE champion turned martial arts athlete is confirmed to be part of the playable characters in the upcoming "EA Sports UFC 2."

According to a report from Game Rant, developer EA Sports has confirmed that CM Punk will be part of the roster in the new installment of their best-selling sports series. The athlete has not yet fought in the UFC, but will be part of the league's video game, so there are a lot of interesting factors in the mix in his appearance in the new EA game.

He will join the list of established stars including the hotly-anticipated game's cover athletes Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, as well as more unexpected names such as Clay Collard and Alexander Albu. According to a report from MMA Junkie, the "EA Sports UFC 2" will feature up to 250 playable characters, plus potentially more in post-launch DLC releases.

One athlete who won't be part of the roster is former UFC athlete Brock Lesnar, who has retired according to a report from Attack of the Fanboy. The well-loved fighter is signed to the WWE at the moment after exiting the UFC scene due to illness.

Creative director Brian Hayes revealed more about the technical specifications of "EA Sports UFC 2" in a conversation with GamingBolt recently. The executive spoke up about the resolution and frame rate of the much-anticipated installment saying, "The game runs at 1080p, and renders at 30fps with motion blur."

"We've found that going to 60fps doesn't have a hugely beneficial impact, and people in testing have told us that the game actually looks better at 30fps with motion blur," Hayes continued during the interview.

While players won't be able to experience the game until it's release a few months from now, EA Sports has dropped a few gameplay videos to hype up the new installment ahead of its launch. Focusing on knockout physics, new submissions and dynamic grappling techniques, the sneak peeks at the "EA Sports UFC 2" allow the fans to see the upgrades they can look forward to in the upcoming game.

"A revolutionary new physics-driven hit reaction and knockout system delivers more visceral, more rewarding, and more authentic KOs than ever before," EA described, according to a report from Video Gamer. "Every knockout is now unique, and finishing the fight has never been more satisfying."

"EA Sports UFC 2" for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is slated for release in spring 2016. An exact launch date has not yet been officially confirmed.
