iPad Air 3 Rumors Hint New Processor and Ultra-Thin Body Expected
The update to the Apple iPad Air 2 was expected in 2015, but it did not come. This year, it is almost certain the world will see the iPad Air 3.
Apple is expected to make some improvements, including a new processor to the next iPad Air model, Tech Radar reports.
Apple decided to release the iPad mini 4 and the brand new full-size iPad Pro last year instead of a new iPad Air. The iPad Air 2 was released in the fall of 2014 and now it is time for an update.
Apple is focused on making ultra-thin devices. The iPad Air 3 could be incredibly thin, but retain the same shape and size as the iPad Air 2. The iPad Air 2 is already really thin, so Apple might leave it alone.
4K Screen, Maybe?
The screen on the iPad Air 3 will likely stay the same size, 9.7 inches. The resolution could improve from 2,048x1,536 pixels to a 4K display. A 3D Touch system seen in the Apple Watch and iPhone 6s could be another way to update the display.
When the iPad Air 3 is released, it will enjoy the latest version of the iOS operating system. If the iPad Air 3 is released before the fall, it would still be running a version of iOS 9, but if it comes out later in the year, it will likely run iOS 10.
Brand New Chip and More RAM
A new chip is certainly coming for the iPad Air 3. The iPad Air 2 has the Apple A8X chip, but the A9 and A9X chips have already replaced that. This means that the iPad Air 3 could be the first device to use the brand new A10 chip.
For RAM, the iPad Air 3 could boost from the 2 GB RAM found in the iPad Air 2 to 3 GB of RAM. The iPad Pro has 4 GB of RAM, but it is a premium tablet designed for more advanced use.
Some rumors have the iPad Air coming out as early as March of this year. It is thought that Apple did not want to confuse customers by releasing too many iPads in 2015, so they held off its release. A fall release seems more plausible for the next iPad Air, but Chinese tech site MyDrivers insists a combined March event with the Apple Watch 2 also being announced.
