San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker to Miss Phoenix Suns Game
The San Antonio Spurs will be without their starting point guard Tony Parker for at least the next game. The Spurs take on the Phoenix Suns Thursday night on the road.
According to ESPN, Parker is currently dealing with a hip injury, the same one that made him leave against the Dallas Mavericks.
This injury is not believed to be very serious at all. Parker should be back in action very soon for the Spurs. Head coach Gregg Popovich is well known for resting his players, and he will have no issues resting Parker for a game or two.
The Spurs are an impressive 36-6 this season, three wins behind the first place Golden State Warriors. Parker has played an instrumental role in the Spurs' success. He has started 39 games for the team this season, averaging 12.8 points per game. Parker is also averaging 5.9 assists per game with the silver and black, leading the Spurs in total assists this season.
Even though Parker isn't the flashiest player in the game, he is still very valuable, and he is widely regarded as one of the best NBA players ever born outside the United States.
He has won four NBA Championships with the Spurs since 2003. The Spurs are an incredible 24-0 at home this year, and many believe they could win the title yet again with a healthy Parker and Tim Duncan. It would be an amazing accomplishment for Parker to win another championship with the Spurs.
This injury shouldn't halt the Spurs' success very much. The team is arguably loaded with the deepest roster in the NBA. More than likely, Argentine-born point guard Manu Ginobili will be getting an increased role at the point guard position against the Suns. Ginobili is very experienced at running the Spurs offense, so he should blend in beautifully.
