One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson is now a father, welcoming a son with stylist Briana Jungwirth.

People magazine reports the pair's first child was born on Thursday in Los Angeles.

"Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother," a mutual friend of the pair said. "It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer."

The two met and briefly commenced dating last May, about two months after Tomlinson's split from longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder.

Over the last several months, Tomlinson has also been romantically linked to now reported girlfriend Danielle Campbell. He and "The Originals" star were spied together in Chicago just days before Christmas and again in London just prior to New Year's.

More recently, Tomlinson was reported to be preparing to relocate to Los Angeles from the U.K. to be closer to Jungwirth and his child.

According to the Daily Mail Online, the 24-year-old has committed to making Jungwirth and his son a priority, particularly since the band is now on an extended hiatus.

"Although they're not romantically involved, Louis thinks Briana is a great woman and will be a fabulous mother," a source said. "Louis has been helping Briana financially and is prepared to get stuck in with all the tasks that caring for a baby demands."

As for Campbell, who is also known to be based in Los Angeles, she and Tomlinson have seemingly been growing closer in recent weeks. Besides the aforementioned sightings, the two have also been spotted on several occasions being openly affectionate with one another.

Earlier this month, Us Weekly reported a source close to One Direction now claims their purported hiatus has morphed into a permanent split and the band of Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne will not be reuniting.
