Apple Expected to Announce iPad Air 3
Apple is planning to host an event in the middle of March to show off new products. The event is expected to include the announcement of a new iPad Air model.
During the event, which will take place the week of March 14, Apple will likely make several product announcements. Along with the new iPad Air, many expect to see new Apple Watch models and a 4-inch iPhone, 9 to 5 Mac reports.
The last update to the iPad Air, the iPad Air 2, was released in October 2014. In 2015, Apple updated the iPad mini tablets and introduced the iPad Pro, but did not make any updates to the iPad Air series of tablets.
New Flash, Improved Audio Possible
According to reports, the iPad Air 3 could have a rear-facing LED flash that would lead to improved pictures, especially in low-light situations. Also, the audio quality would improve if Apple puts additional speaker grilles on the new tablet, unconfirmed plans reveal.
Apple has also reportedly been developing new screen displays that would work with the Apple Pencil, the new stylus that the tech company released in 2015.
iPad Sales Down, iPad Air Preferred
Apple reported that sales of its iPads have declined year after year. In the most recent quarter, sales of the device were 25 percent lower than during the same period last year. The iPad Air model is the most popular tablet in the iPad line, and a lack of an update to the Air could be a big factor for the device's sinking sales.
New iPhone With 4-inch Screen, Apple Watch
At the March event, the iPhone 5se is also expected to be announced. This smartphone will look very similar to the iPhone 5s from 2013, but it will have updated internal features, including the same processor used in the newer iPhone 6s. The iPhone 5se will have a 4-inch screen, a display size that has not been seen from Apple since the iPhone 5s.
As for the Apple Watch, the only updates that are expected are colors and band options. This likely means more rubber Sport bands, additional colors for the Hermes bands, and a black version of the Milanese Loop.
