Eiza González Talks Success, 'Star Wars' & Robert Rodriguez Believing in Her as Much as Salma Hayek
Eiza González looks at home playing Santanico Pandemonium on "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series," but she never imagined she would find such success in Hollywood.
In a recent interview with Grupo Formula, the singer and actress explained how Robert Rodriguez has helped her career.
"One comes to the United States with a dream and to show off their talent," she said, notes Quién. "Fortunately, I've been working with [Rodriguez] for three months, and I feel really good."
González has been a fan of Rodriguez, who also helped launch the careers of Salma Hayek and Danny Trejo. Plus, she got the best compliment she could hope for from the director.
"Robert told me, 'For me, the original movie is very important. I believed in Salma Hayek. Now I trust you,'" González recalled.
When she arrived in Hollywood, she went around for many castings, including for the new "Star Wars" films. A little while after, González accepted posing for a magazine for brides-to-be, and that's when she got the call that Rodriguez was interested.
She read lines, which was filmed, and a few days later, she was cast. The actress continues to feel incredibly lucky and appreciative of her position.
"He takes you under his wing, and you become his muse," the 24-year-old said. "I grew up watching all his movies. It's a dream come true. I pinch myself every day to understand that I have an opportunity that opens doors. He's not like any director. He has incredibly opened doors, and he has been amazing to me. I would work with him on other projects."
She's also been enjoying a lot of love for the show.
For its new marketing campaign, her character, Santanico Pandemonium, is front and center. There's a party line that gives callers a three-minute conversation with Santanico, during which they will answer, "What would you do for Santanico Pandemonium?" Experiences will vary based on people's responses. The promotion runs until May 21, and it is aimed to garner support for the last four episodes. The first will be aired on April 29.
