Less than 24 hours after dropping his first song and video as a solo artist, Zayn Malik's "Pillowtalk" has already soared to No. 1 on iTunes charts.

With a little help from rumored girlfriend Gigi Hadid as one of the video's models, the 23-year-old Malik seems well on his way to successfully putting his One Direction days behind him with the release of the far more provocative hit.

Hollywood Life reports Malik formally released his new video on Jan. 29 and it couldn't have come a moment too soon for excited fans, many of whom instantly took to the web to rave about his voice and laud him for having the wisdom to now venture out on his own.

Leading up to his big release, The Daily Mail reports Malik admitted the original inspiration for his raunchy new tune stems more from ex-girlfriend Perrie Edwards than it does current flame Hadid. He added he started penning his "Mind of Mine" album just weeks after he and Edwards officially split and called off their engagement.

Throughout the "Pillowtalk" video, Malik and Hadid make no secret of their attraction to one another. The two are touchy, feely from beginning to end, totally making out near the end of the production.

Since leaving One Direction, Malik has been more than open about his desire to take his music in a more mature, "cooler" direction.

"Once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more," he recently said of all his fans. "For 10 years, this album has been in my brain, and it's just been there, sat with me, needing to be out."

For Hadid, the whole video scene hardly comes as foreign ground. She previously teamed up with pop star exes Joe Jonas and Cody Simpson on their music videos, including the latter's 2014 hit single "Surfboard."
