Emoji Update Adds 74 Pictures, Including Bacon, Drooling Face
A set of 74 new emojis has been finalized and released.
Bacon, one of the most highly requested pictures, has been added to the list and will start appearing soon on smartphones and tablets.
In May 2015, a list of 37 emojis was submitted to Unicode Consortium 9.0. On Friday, the group announced the final approved emojis, which will be available for use in mid-2016, TechRadar reports.
Bacon Was Requested
Beyond the bacon emoji, foods in general were a focus in the list of added icons. Other foods include shrimp, croissant, cucumber, carrot, avocado, potato, glass of milk, pancakes, kiwifruit, peanuts, green salad and stuffed flatbread.
More Sports
Sports continue to get more representation in emojis. With this update, the first, second and third place medals were added, just in time for the Summer Olympics. Handball, Water Polo and Modern Pentathlon were also added as new sports. Additionally, a fencing competitor and wrestlers were also added.
New Animals
More animals were also added in this update. Adding to the already extensive list, new animals include a squid, a shark, an owl, a fox face, an eagle, a duck, a bat, a lizard, a deer, a rhinoceros, a gorilla and a butterfly.
Face Updates
With this update, more faces were added to the basic smiling figure. A girl shrugging and a girl doing a facepalm are two of the new basic emojis. There are also new hand signals, including a left and right handed fist, the "call me" sign, fingers crossed and a handshake. Additionally, the selfie emoji was created, showing a hand with a phone in it.
Finally, Dancing Man
The dancing woman is one of the classic emojis, but there was no option for a dancing man -- until now. In addition to the dancing man emoji, a man in a tuxedo will also appear with the new content.
Other new emojis include a shopping cart, an octagonal sign, a scooter, a motor scooter and a black heart.
Expect the new emojis by the middle of 2016.
