Jessica Alba Launches Denim Line With DL1961
Jessica Alba is set to embark on her debut in the world of fashion, making plans to launch a new line of denim with the DL1961 brand.
"I probably have two full racks of denim and each hanger is doubled up," Alba recently told Vogue of her longtime quest to find what she considers the perfect jean. "It's excessive. It's next-level."
From stonewashed to colored jeans to boyfriend jeans to skinny and distressed jeans, the leggy actress insisted she's tried them all. She said she's now ready to take matters into her own hands. Plans call for her to design from eight to 10 pieces for the brand's Fall 2016 collection, which is slated to hit stores later this summer.
"I live in Southern California and people aren't too fussy out here, so wearing jeans out to dinner or an event isn't out of the question," she said. "You can throw on a great blazer, a blouse, and a pump and that's just as acceptable as a cocktail dress."
Alba added she plans to use her own personal experiences with jeans in ultimately deciding how to complete her designs.
"I remember having to lay down to button up those tiny Daisy Duke shorts because I had a big booty," she said. "I had to squeeze into my friends' jeans because my mom wouldn't buy them for me. The jeans that I'm designing are going to celebrate women's bodies and show off those curves."
A collaboration with DL1961 seemed a natural fit with her environmentally mindful Honest Company, the star said, because of the brand's already high standards.
"DL1961 is a thoughtful company in the way they go about creating denim, and that angle was important to me as well," she said.
In producing their denim, the company is said to rely on a unique "confection" of fibers that cuts the processing time in half. The method also uses half the dye, half the water and half the energy that it takes to produce traditional denim.
