Floyd Mayweather Return Talks Brewing According to Shawn Porter
Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has kept himself busy as of late and the latest brainchild of the undefeated fighter is this brainchild he is currently working out with Eddie Hearn.
According to the Telegraph, Mayweather and Hearn have joined forces and could possibly come up with an event which will showcase UK boxers going up against US fighters.
The event which will be held in the UK will be a co-promotional event between Mayweather Promotions and Matchroom sports.
“Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions have formed a partnership with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport to hold a series of fights in the UK matching our guys against his guys – and other fights – and we have had some great discussions. We are looking to implement this as soon as possible. The timing is right.”
The planned event seems pretty interesting though it would have been more appealing if Mayweather were to actually be among the fighters in it.
After retiring last September following a unanimous decision over Andre Berto, Mayweather announced his retirement and has constantly reiterated that he has no plans of putting on another pair of boxing gloves, at least for now.
Not too many are convinced that he will stay retired and that includes former IBF champion Shawn Porter.
Porter is currently preparing for an upcoming bout with Keith Thurman on Mar. 12 and he believes that the flamboyant one will be among the interested spectators. He goes on to add that he believes that Mayweather would come out and face the winner of that tiff.
According to 28-year-old boxer, claims he has heard some discussions about Mayweather possibly coming back though it would be only for a one-fight deal. And the reason for that is that he believes that Mayweather wants to break out of his 49-all deadlock with Rocky Marciano.
But the hitch is that there is no certainty to Mayweather actually returning for now since he will also be watching and assessing if he can stand up to whoever wins between Porter and Thurman.
“I’ve heard things about him coming back once more, but only once more. He’s tied the record and he’s trying to break the record, but at the same time, I think he’s gonna watch this fight and whatever happens between Keith and I, and if he feels like he can beat one of us, he’ll come back. I think if he doesn’t feel like he can beat one of us, he won’t come back,” said Porter via an interview with On The Ropes Boxing.
