The 2015-16 NBA season is winding down and the Los Angeles Lakers continue to plummet. Would this performance mean the end for Byron Scott?

Scott is likely to finish the season since there were factors that led to the squad’s poor showing for the third year in a row. He joined the Lakers last season but there were hopes he could improve his previous performances by having a better win-loss record.

The Lakers finished last season with a 21-61 win-loss record. They have 23 games to try to improve out of their remaining 27 games. They currently sport an 11-44 record so it will be a tough one to call.

Though it looms that Scott will not be totally to blame for this season, the issue turns to something more important -- his ability to handle the team and develop the young core.

Since the season started, Scott has ended up handling the team with an iron fist. Julius Randle had his issues and more so with D’Angelo Russell. The two are part of the three future stars that the Lakers are grooming, with Jordan Clarkson being the third one.

Scott is confident that he has top management backing, carrying out his plan which has yet to bear any fruit. He has been criticized on how he defines "development" when he singled out winning as a priority over giving the young guys a chance. By now, everyone knows that Scott is indirectly proving he is not someone who can prosper as a motivational coach.

Scott has proven that despite being hit hard by heavy criticism, he will continue his ways. His reprieve is the lack of talent on the roster, though the story may be different next season.

No one knows what the Lakers have planned in the offseaso. They are expected to pitch at high profile players like Kevin Durant as they search for a new franchise cornerstone. They could snag someone from the rookie list though their chances at the likes of Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram don’t exactly hold good odds.

Either way, Scott could remain but his tenure may be cut short. He will be entering the third year of his four-year $17 million deal with the Lakers next season. However, the franchise has been known to pull the plug on coaches in recent years.

That list includes Mike D’ Antoni and Mike Brown, who were given the pink slip despite years left on their contract. Could Scott have a similar fate? Join the poll below and share your reactions as well.
