5 Latino Songs That Everyone Is Ashamed to Admit They Love
Latino songs are all over the spectrum, with both good and bad points. Some of the most popular hits aren't exactly the best-written songs, but they are the type that many might love, even if they are ashamed to say so. Below are five of these Latino songs:
1) "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias
While Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias was starting out and making a name for himself, he released "Bailamos" in 1999. Translated to "Let's Dance" in English, the song would become a hit on the Billboards charts, which doesn't make its track record terrible. However, "Bailamos" was famously played over and over at quinceañeras for years, thus making it both an annoying and a guilty pleasure song.
2) "Sorry" by Justin Bieber featuring J Balvin, Latino remix
"Yeah, the Latina girls are gonna go crazy," Bieber declared about the Latino remix of his pop hit -- you might be put off by such confidence. But listening to the song and its reggae beat, the "Sorry" remix does lend a catchy vibe. The dance music is primed for easy listening and perfect for siestas. The song has bilingual lyrics, too.
3) "Macarena" by Los Del Rio
Any kid growing up in the 90s has danced to the "Macarena." The Spanish song turned Los Del Rio into world-renowned pop superstars even if they had been singing since the 60s. The impact of "Macarena's" popularity even translated to election campaign jingles. It also spawned many versions, including "Sesame Street's" Miss Piggy. The song is also considered an earworm, but it cannot be denied that when the "Macarena" plays, you can't help but dance to it.
4) "Mambo Number 5 (A Little Bit)" by Lou Bega
This song became a dance hit just like the "Macarena," but "Mambo Number 5" was actually a revival of a 1949 song by Cuban singer Dámaso Pérez Prado. "This is a goofy, shitty, annoying song," said Fallout Boy's Joe Trohman. "I feel like Mambo No. 5 may have paved the way for that kind of candy pop," he added, describing the song as something you would expect at a middle school dance. However, it does have a danceable beat and, like "Macarena," you won't resist moving your legs and swaying your hips a bit when this song is playing.
5) "Livin La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin
Martin scored a huge hit with this song in 1999 and it might be one of the most overplayed songs of recent times. However, this is a party anthem at bars or clubs. It's the kind of song that's played to keep guests energized and awake as happy hour winds down.
