Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Kahn May 2016 Fight is Tonight: The Odds, Predictions and Where to Watch the Live Stream
Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan square off tonight Saturday, May 7, 2016 in Las Vegas in their much anticipated World Boxing Council middleweight title showdown.
Both men recently weighed in at 155 pounds for the mega-bout, slated for the new $375 million T-Mobile Arena. The pay-per-view bout will be televised on HBO with the card starting at 9 pm. E.T. Fans can live stream here.
"I feel great making the weight, and I'm look forward to a great fight," the 25-year-old Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) told a large contingent of his most loyal fans, many of whom are stoked by OddsShark listing him as a strong favorite.
"I know I'm fighting a fast fighter with a lot of experience," said a nonetheless confident Alvarez. "I can also fight and I have a lot of experience also," the Mexican star assured his fans.
Khan as big as he's Ever Been
The 29-year-old Khan (32-3-1) moved up two weight divisions to make the long talked about bout happen, which many see as a make-or break time in his career.
"It's a big challenge," said the man who has never fought at more than 147 pounds, but trained for the bout by sparring with former champions Andre Ward and Andre Berto. "I'm up against a great fighter, but I am focused and 100 percent confident I can go in there and win it."
Alvarez Stands Between Khan and History
By aggressively taking on Alvarez, Khan is looking to become just the third fighter in boxing history to earn world titles as both a junior welterweight and a middleweight, joining Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya.
Many of the experts seem convinced he'll need to be at his absolute best to take down Alvarez.
"Khan is a great boxer, moves well and throws great combinations. He will need controlled movement against Canelo, not running around for the sake of it," said former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
"I think he might be a little too small," added famed trainer Freddie Roach, who once counted Khan as one of his disciples. "He's got to pitch a perfect game. I think he would've been better off fighting [welterweight titlist and fellow Englishman] Kell Brook."
Alvarez's is expected to earn at least $3.5 million for the bout, while, Khan is assured if earning $2 million in base pay.
