Following the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, Donald Trump reiterated his immigration stance on Monday that would temporarily ban Muslims entering the U.S.

"We Have a Dysfunctional Immigration System"

Speaking from New Hampshire, Trump delivered an address about terrorism, which included his plan to reassess the country's current immigration policies, and it includes a temporary ban of Muslims entering until further notice.

"If we don't get tough, and we don't get smart -- and fast -- we're not going to have a country anymore -- there will be nothing left," said Trump reading from a teleprompter, and inaccurately adding that the Orlando shooter was born in "Afghan." While the shooter's parents were born in Afghanistan, he was born in New York.

"The bottom line is that the only reason the killer was in America in the first place was because we allowed his family to come here," said Trump, later adding, "We have a dysfunctional immigration system which does not permit us to know who we let into our country, and it does not permit us to protect our citizens."

Trump spoke of his temporary Muslim ban, which he first pitched following the 2015 San Bernardino shootings, and acknowledged the ban would be lifted "when we as a nation are in a position to properly and perfectly screen those people coming into our country."

"The immigration laws of the United States give the president the power to suspend entry into the country of any class of persons that the president deems detrimental to the interests or security of the United States, as he deems appropriate," said Trump on Monday afternoon. "I will use this power to protect the American people. When I am elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats."

He added that a responsible immigration policy will be developed after an impartial and overdue security assessment occurs.

Trump said immigration into the U.S. has to be under control to prevent radicalization within the country.

The Republican presidential candidate said his immigration plan is one that promotes American values and benefits the country, while Hillary Clinton's "radical" immigration policy benefits politically-correct special interests.

"Immigration is a privilege, and we should not let anyone into this country who doesn't support our communities - all of our communities. America has already admitted four times more immigrants than any country on earth, and we continue to admit millions more with no real checks or scrutiny."

Clinton's Terror Attack Speech

Earlier on Monday, Clinton delivered her own speech against terrorism. From Cleveland, Ohio, Clinton noted that the identifying and stopping "lone wolves" is a top priority, whether or not they have any to no contact with radicalized groups such as ISIS.

"The attack in Orlando makes it even more clear: we cannot contain this threat - we must defeat it," said Clinton, noting her anti-terrorism plans includes ramping an air campaign, increasing support for international supporters on the ground in the Middle East, while pushing them to do more in the region.

Clinton called on assault weapon reforms, such as those used in the San Bernardino and Orlando attacks. She said if an individual is being watched by the FBI, for suspected terrorist links, then he or she should not be able to purchase a gun with no questions asked. She added that people who are deemed dangerous to board a plane shouldn't buy a gun either.

"We have to make it harder for people who should not have those weapons of war. That might not stop every shooting or terrorist attack. But it will stop some and it will save lives and it will protect our first responders," Clinton said.
