Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 Spoilers – Arizona Finds Love, Possible Love Triangle for Meredith
“Grey’s Anatomy” ended in a shocking Season 12 finale where Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) chased after love all the way across the country leaving Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) to find “the one” right at home in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13. And after secrets revealed between Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) and Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), Mere might find herself in a love triangle yet again.
Callie and Arizona
After a long custody battle that ended in Arizona’s victory in Season 12, the divorced couple came to reconciliation when Arizona granted Callie full access to their daughter. She let Torres bring the child to New York so she could be with her ex-girlfriend again.
With Callie out of the way, Arizona might end her “hook-up” phase and find someone to settle down with. Show runner Shonda Rhimes tells Entertainment Weekly that Arizona’s new love interest will be introduced carefully so that it’s natural.
“I’m very excited to introduce a love interest for her, and to get to tell a story with her that lets her be who she is, and to see who she is post the relationships that she’s had,” Rhimes says. “You don’t want to just stick two people together. I want to do it organically and I want the audience to be rooting for it.”
Meredith and Riggs
As things heat up for Arizona, Meredith is expected to find a love interest in Riggs in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 given their love-hate relationship.
During Dr. Amelia Shepherd’s (Caterina Scorsone) wedding, Meredith secretly decided to give love another chance as she and Riggs stared into each other’s eyes, thinking about their dirty little secret. Then Maggie revealed that “she really, really likes Riggs,’ and she thinks he likes her too.
Riggs spends a lot of time flirting with Maggie, hooked up with Meredith, and is known to be quite the Casanova. Will the two sisters find themselves in a love triangle?
We all know Meredith continued to pursue Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) at the start of their relationship when she found out he was still married, and that his wife worked at the hospital. Riggs could be McDreamy 2.0 and Maggie can be just another woman in Meredith’s way that will be pushed to the side.
Maggie’s Secret
Meanwhile, Maggie has yet to tell Meredith that Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is her biological father although she told her ex-boyfriend already. If Meredith finds out, this could result in them falling out, giving her more ammunition to keep pursing Riggs at the expense of Maggie’s feelings.
Tune into ABC on Thursday Sept. 22 for the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 premiere.
