Turkey battled to an impressive 1-1 draw against Croatia in the opener of the tournament, making up for a 1-0 loss to the same team at the Euro 2016 this past summer. The most impressive aspect of that match was that the Turks leveled minutes after falling behind at the tail-end of the the first half.

The Ukraine suffered a similar 1-1 draw at home against Iceland.

Only one side automatically qualifies from the group in the UEFA Qualifiers. The second place team must endure a two-legged playoff with another second place side for a chance to compete in Russia.
