NHL Hockey Playoffs 2014: Canadiens and Bruins Meet in Game 7; Ducks Just One Game Away From Conference Finals
The second round of the National Hockey League playoffs are almost complete, and the field (or in this case ice) is dwindling. In just a few days, there will be only four teams left in the chase for the Stanley Cup Championship. Hockey fans must savior every second, because the season will be over sooner rather than later.
The first game for hockey fans Wednesday night is between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins. It features a Game 7 battle between the most storied rivalry in sports history. Not only is this the 34th time the Canadiens and Bruins franchises have played each other in a playoff series, but this will be the ninth time these two will play a Game 7. Both of those remarkable statistics are the most in NHL and sports history.
The Bruins will be playing at home, but the Canadiens will have the momentum. The Canadiens recently won Game 6 in dominating fashion by a score of 4-0, shutting out the Bruins. Goaltender Carey Price has been a little bit inconsistent this series, but he has played his best when he's needed most. Fortunately for the Bruins, the home team is 4-2 in the series thus far and Bruins fans are among the loudest in the NHL.
Canadiens fans would love nothing more than to watch their team advance to the Eastern Conference Finals while eliminating the Bruins in the process. They know this team is capable of winning on the road. In the previous round, the Canadiens were 2-0 on the road. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Nearly 3,000 miles away in California, hockey fans get an in state showdown. The Anaheim Ducks will attempt to end their series with the Los Angeles Kings on the road. The Ducks currently have a 3-2 series lead and are just one win away from the third round. This series has certainly not been kind to the home team. The home team is a combined 1-4 in the first five games. The Kings have already shown they are capable of a lot, as they previously overcame 0-3 deficit in the first round against the San Jose Sharks.
If the Kings are able to win Game 6 and force a Game 7, then that game will be played on Friday 9:00 p.m. EDT. The winner of this series will go on to play the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals. There are no scheduled hockey games for Thursday, so enjoy Wednesday Night Hockey.
