The new GoPro Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session are ready for water, and lots of it
Due to recent poor demand of its products, GoPro, the action camera innovator, has had a tough year. It has also seen delayed shipments on its first drone, The Karma. Looking forward to a good rebound, GoPro is announcing two new action cams. The Hero 5 Black, $400, and Hero 5 Session, $300, are expected to offer a ton of new features at $100 cheaper than their predecessors.
Instead of developing many different models, GoPro intends to return with two strong flagship models. The Hero 5 Black is water resistant up to 33 feet without any waterproof protective casing. In addition, it features a touch screen LCD, more vibrant and with a snappier and more organized menu. The new Hero 5 Black also features an onboard camera tour, according to Yahoo! Finance, which gives new users a quick introduction to functions, as well as how multiple tasks are doable with just a few buttons.
MSN also reports that like the older GoPro models, video-capture options are endless, with resolution ranging from 480p to ultra HD and even 4K video. Five field-of-view options can be selected, ranging from very wide to narrow, and frames per second settings are flexible, from 30fps to 240fps. Another new feature is the ability to capture RAW or wide-dynamic range (WDR) photos during single-shot or burst mode, adjustable using the Protune controls.
Besides the usual connection to a phone or tablet, the new models feature the latest in voice-control technology, with commands like "GoPro, start recording," "GoPro, shoot burst," and "GoPro, start time lapse."
The Hero 5 Black looks immediately promising; however, the Hero 5 Session looks almost identical to its predecessor. Its real innovation is in its interior, with new features such as image stabilization, voice control, and caseless underwater technology. These simple yet functional innovations are consumer-oriented and perfect for action-cam users.
