Huawei set to launch Note 7 alternative - Mate 9 and Mate 9 pro, with killer specs
Samsung's Galaxy Note series has long been considered as the king of the phablet market. However, fresh controversies arising from the Note 7's explosion-inducing battery problems have led the South Korean tech giant's reputation to plummet. Now, many other smartphone makers are trying to seize the opportunity to fill in the gap the doomed Note 7 left.
Huawei has come up with a pretty solid "Note 7 killer" with the Mate 9, which is loaded with a plethora of cutting-edge features. In order to generate further anticipation towards the model, the Chinese smartphone maker has released a teaser that feautres the latest version of its Mate series.
The Huawei flagship phone is going to be launch on November 3. The teaser provides further insights on the model's design as well as several of its other features.
Reports suggest that Huawei will launch two separate models of the Mate 9 - the standard "Manhattan"/Mate 9 model for international markets and premium "Long Island"/Mate 9 Pro model for the Chinese market.
If rumors are to be believed, the Mate 9 may sport a 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4K optical zoom. The primary focus of the phone is the dual-camera setup on the back with sensors supplied by German camera maker Leica.
According to Fab Newz, the Mate 9 Pro will have a 5.9-inch QHD curved display, while the Mate 9 will have an FHD display. Both thvariants will be powered with 64-bit octa-core HiSilicon Kirim 960 processors with up to 6GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage. Both smartphones have Android Nougat installed and 4000 mAh-capacity batteries.
As far as looks are concerned, the device looks gorgeous with its slim design. The curved-edge Mate 9 Pro, despite being touted as a China-only model for now, has an opportunity to shine after the Note 7 recall. In many ways, both Mate 9 variants - apart from the screens of course, seems to have many similarities. The device might also offer USB Type-C for connectivity.
The price of the device is expected to be around USD 1300, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
