Steph Curry visits boy with leukemia, signs jersey and trades photographs
A heart-melting moment happened when guard Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors met 7-year old Brody Stephens, who is suffering from leukemia in Riley Children's Hospital, Indiana on Sunday afternoon.
Brody was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia when he was just a year old and managed to battle it. However, the illness reappeared in a different type on December 1, 2015, according to Indystar. The strong boy has been battling his disease ever since.
Brody is a huge basketball fan and loves playing the game at the hospital. He used to play basketball in New Palestine, Indiana until he felt tired and approached his dad. The little boy has just finished undergoing a marrow bone transplant and felt a bit weak after the surgery. Right now, the little boy has to fight a virus after the procedure and is taking drugs that are non-FDA-approved ones, according to the hospital's blog. Brody is in an isolation room, where visitors must wear yellow gowns and masks to enter it.
It was such a big surprise when the boy saw his basketball hero in front of his eyes. He was speechless to see his special visitor- it is something that he had never imagined before. Curry was in Indiana as his club would be playing against the Indiana Pacers the following day.
Wearing a yellow gown and surgical mask, Curry spent more than one hour talking and joking with Brody. The star signed jerseys and Brody's sports cards. However, the most precious gift was from Brody, who gave two time NBA MVP a bracelet written "BrodyStrong." Curry promised to wear it in the upcoming game.
The Monday game ended on Warrior's 120-83 win against Pacers, with Curry scoring 22 points and Klay Thompson scoring 25. The result marked Warrior's eighth consecutive win.
