Tomb Raider Reboot Update: Walton Goggins Chosen To Play The Villain
Lara Croft will be back for more actions in the big screen as an upcoming film is on the way. With that kind of possibility, antagonists to the film are being anticipated and the actors who will be portraying should be chosen critically. However, now, an update regarding on who will star to battle Alicia Vikander's Lara Croft has surfaced and it is a familiar face.
According to Hey U Guys, Walton Goggins has been picked to play the villain in upcoming film Tomb Raider. The video-game adaptation will have Goggins whose career has been glamorously uprising with The Hateful Eight and Vice Principals. Goggins is said to be in the final talks with the producers but the character is being kept in the dark.
Variety revealed that Warner Bros, MGM and GK Films are working with Goggins to secure his acceptance of the role. Warner Bros has been planning the reboot for years but only when MGM joined the project in 2013 that there has been massive development. Further, GK Films, owned by Graham King, acquired the rights to produce the movie from Square Enix which paved the way to revive the Tomb Raider in cinemas.
Tomb Raider was a popular video-game released in 1996 and hit at least 35 million units sold. The game also received a reboot in 2013 wherein Lara Croft was set to 21 years old.
The original Tomb Raider films were released in 2001 and 2003 with Angelina Jolie starring as Lara Croft. The films are both successful in the market with at least $432 million in revenue.
Goggins is set to work with Roar Uthaug, the director of the reboot, and shall be expected to hit theaters in 2018. Meanwhile, while waiting, fans should expect the upcoming Assassin's Creed film, another video-game inspired movie.
