NBA News: Sacramento Kings' Players, Matt Barnes, DeMarcus Cousins Denied Assault Allegations After Sued Over NY Nightclub Fight
Wednesday - The Federal court sued the NBA players, Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins over a nightclub assault. Two people were assaulted at New York nightclub earlier this week, claiming that they have been lambasted by the NBA stars.
As per Bleacher Report, It was Monday morning when Mayrone Powell and Jasmine Besiso were at the Avenue Nightclub when the altercation with Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins took place in the VIP area of the club. According to the lawsuit that has been filed in U.S District Court for the Southern District of New York, states that no criminal charges have been dropped against the two Sacramento players.
Michael Lamonsoff, the attorney of the two victims wrote in the filing that Mayrone Powell and Jasmine Besiso have suffered severe injuries due to intentional batteries and assaults by the defendants who were treated at the Lenox Hill Hospital. While the New York-based attorney, Alex Spiro who represents the players, Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins, decline to make a comment or respond to the alleged altercation issue.
Barnes approached Jasmine Besiso in the VIP area of the club and just grabbed her by the neck and start choking her, Besiso further claimed that she was intentionally elbowed in the face. After Barnes released his grip, she was knocked out. Powell in the other hand tried to come in Besiso's defense but he was punched and kicked by DeMarcus in the head, lower body and in the torso after the King's players tackled him to the floor.
According to TMZ, the New York Police Department was immediately called but Barnes and Cousins swiftly left the scene by the time the police got into the club. Matt Barnes then wrote in his Instagram post on Monday, stating "there is always a two sides of a story," Barnes' rep insisting that the two players were the real victims.
The lawsuit was more than $75,000, which is the minimum amount in order the lawsuit is to be filed in the federal court.
