Fox 'American Idol' 2014 Results, Spoilers & Recap: Another Singer Got Kicked Off, Who Will Win the Season? [Video]
American Idol season 13 is getting closer to the end. Alex Preson was eliminated on Thursday night's (May 15) show, leaving Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene left in the final to battle for the title.
"Unfortunately it's the end of the line for one of them tonight," the reality singing competition series' veteran host Ryan Seacrest said before announcing the two finalists.
"All of you guys are so talented," he said to the top three contestants. "So first off, thank you for what you've done for us this season."
The anticipating trio, who now claim themselves as BFFs, put their arms around together as the studio lights dimmed down. Seacrest revealed that the first person to compete in the next week's finale was 17-year-old Irene. She seemed to be so shocked to hear her name announced and hugged her fellow Idol-wannabe Johnson, as her mother and brother watched her in full excitement off-stage.
"I love you too, man," Johnson told Preston as they embraced each other and nervously waited for the next result.
Once again, the lights dimmed, and the host revealed the second finalist.
"The person who will battle it out with Jena next week and could be the next American Idol is..." he said. "Caleb Johnson!"
Last night was certainly a bittersweet moment for all three judges, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban, as they were more than happy for the two contestants who made the cut for the season's final but also sad to see Alex Preston pack his suitcase. They gave him a standing ovation, saying goodbye to the talented singer.
"Think of how much you've accomplished and all the things you've done in the last three months," Seacrest said to Preston in encouragement.
Preston then performed for his last time on "American Idol," singing his original ballad "Fairytales," while his father cried and the judging panelists still stood, all watching him.
Now, who will be crowned the next American Idol?
