Natalie Portman On “Thor,” “Star Wars” & Acting With All That Blue Screen
Natalie Portman is undeniably one of the most versatile actresses in the industry as having been portrayed a lot of different roles in many different genres. Although is not expected to reprise her role as Jane Foster in the upcoming “Thor: Ragnarok,” the actress shared her experiences while working on the film as well as her time as Padme Amidala on the classic “Star Wars” franchise.
Sitting down with Deadline to discuss her once again blockbuster film, “Jackie,” Natalie Portman revealed that she finds it more challenging to work with visual effects. “As an actor, it’s like a completely different scale,” she said.
Natalie Portman clarified that being part of “Star Wars” was an incredible experience for her, acting on blue and blank screen was difficult considering that it is her imagination that has to do the works. The actress added that it is difficult to be imaginative in the whole duration of filming.
“I don’t feel like I’ve gotten it yet. I don’t feel like I’ve understood it yet,” she added as she compared acting on blue screens with acting on an actual scenario whereas the latter involves internalization of the emotional state of the character while the former is imagining everything. “And when you’re doing those blue-screen movies, you have to imagine everything outside and within. You have to create the whole world. It’s like being a kid again.”
Although Marvel snubbed her character for the third film of “Thor,” Portman expressed her interest in reprising her role once she figures out how to act with all that blue screen. Speaking earlier with Wall Street Journal, she said that she will not be returning any soon to the Marvel cinematic universe.
The actress, however, reiterated, “I mean, I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an “Avengers 7,” or whatever, I have no idea. But as I know I’m done, but it was a great thing to be a part of.”
Natalie Portman is expecting her baby to arrive anytime soon while “Thor: Ragnarok” is set to arrive in theaters in November 2017. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
