Anderson Silva Broken Leg Update: Brazilian Star May Not Finish Contract With UFC
Anderson Silva has been cleared to perform mixed martial arts-related activities, and is on pace to make a return later this year or in early 2015, but the former middleweight champion is unsure how long his comeback will last.
Silva, who recently posted a video on Instagram showing that he is already throwing kicks with his surgically-repaired leg, has eight fights left in his contract with Ultimate Fighting Championship.
But after undergoing a major surgery to repair a broken leg, the Brazilian MMA icon is not sure if he can finish the remaining bouts in his contract.
"I have eight fights to do yet in my contract. I want to do all these fights but I don't know that I will be in the mood to do this," Silva said in an interview with Globo, FanSided reported. "For now, I'm very excited, I'm going through a renovation phase. It's going to be nice for me do what I love when I be back to fighting."
Silva signed a 10-fight deal with UFC in December 2012 after scoring a victory against Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153.
However, the 39-year-old MMA star has only fought twice since then, losing to Chris Weidman both times, including in their rematch wherein he sustained a gruesome leg injury.
Dana White Believes Silva Will Return Before End Of The Year
In a recent interview, Silva also said that he will not consider returning to the Octagon before the end of 2014 because he wants to spend more time with his family.
But when asked about Silva's declaration, White expressed confidence that the former middleweight kingpin will eventually decide to fight again sometime in December, saying that what Silva is telling the media is the complete opposite of what he is really thinking.
"This is what he does every time he talks to the media. He says, 'I absolutely will not fight Chael Sonnen again.' He always does that with the media," White said via MMA Junkie. "I don't know if he likes to play with you guys or what he likes to do, but I said, he'll be back in 2014 or first thing in 2015. End of 2014 or beginning of 2015 is what I said."
