2017 iPad News: Cheapest iPad Goes on Sale; Limited Edition Red iPhone 7 Crosses 350,000 Mark in China
Earlier this week, Apple launched its much anticipated 2017 iPad, red iPhone 7, iPhone SE and iPad mini updates. Apple expects that the cheaper iPads will help the company perk up their unit sales.
According to Forbes, 2017 iPad may be the cheapest in the line of all iPads ever launched by Apple, but it is certainly not the most exciting one. A small improvement on the processor from iPad Air 2, this slightly heavier iPad may not be cutting edge, but it gets the work done.
The latest 2017 iPad features A9 processor with 2GB RAM and also supports Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The device also guarantees 10-hour battery life on a single charge. With the launch of its latest tablet, the company discontinued the Air model and simplified its product line with iPad, iPad Pro and iPad Mini models. However, from the looks of it, it is likely that the Cupertino-based tech giant may do away with Mini variants as well.
The devices went on sale at 8:01 a.m. PDT when the company announced on its site that their stores will be down until the big sale. 2017 iPad and red iPhone 7 go on sale starting today.
Meanwhile, along with 2017 iPad, the company also launched a red iPhone 7, the first one ever outside of a cycle. This new limited edition design has been launched in collaboration with Apple's PRODUCT (RED) campaign. A portion of the sales from this limited edition iPhone will go towards Global Fund charity that supports HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, Quartz reported.
Just like 2017 iPad, the latest red iPhone only features a new color and no additional features. The limited edition iPhone 7 will only be available in 128GB and 256GB models. No announcement has been made about 32GB storage. So far, 350,000 users in China have registered for red iPhone 7 and expressed their interest in the device.
