Asus has just launched its new Transformer Book V during the Computex 2014 event in Taiwan. This unit is a truly innovative piece of modern technology. The new Asus Transformer Book V is three gadgets in one: a tablet, laptop and an Android smartphone, giving the device five ways of functioning altogether (explained later in this article), namely a Windows laptop, a Windows tablet, an Android smartphone, an Android tablet and an Android laptop.

Here are the specs of the Transformer Book V:

  • Processor: Intel Core CP
  • Memory: 4GB RAM
  • Display: 12.5 inch screen
  • Battery: 28 watt hour
  • microSD support: up to 128GB

There are varied reports on the screen size. Some reports say it will be 1920x1080, while others claim it is in fact 1366x768. A complete PC base is provided by the laptop keyboard/base station. The device features a 1 TB hard drive. A slot situated at the rear of the tablet can take a 5-inch ZenFone-like smartphone, which is the world's first gadget to have Intel's 64-bit Moorefield (Atom) SoC.

How the different operations interact with each other

Sebastian Anthony over at Extreme Tech explained the various operations available to the device user: "The tablet can be used as a Windows tablet, or as a Windows laptop. The smartphone can obviously be used as a normal Android smartphone. When you slot the smartphone into the tablet, you then gain the ability to run Android apps on your Windows desktop -- or you can let Android take over the display entirely, turning the device into an Android tablet (or laptop, if you're docked). The tablet gains LTE connectivity when the smartphone is plugged in. There will be some interchange of data between the two devices, but the exact implementation isn't clear."

The new Asus Transformer Book V is a good option for someone looking for a three-in-one device, which would be a huge boon if the data interchange between Windows and Android turns out to be convenient.
