With Google's efforts to make Google Glass more visually and aesthetically pleasing failing to produce successful sales, the tech giant has resorted to partnering with designer and fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg. This collaboration for limited edition design frames for Google Glass is an attempt to make the wearable piece of technology look more chic and stylish. Google is set to unveil five new frames with eight new shades on June 4. The item will be available to interested buyers on Mr Porter and Net-a-Porter starting June 23. This marks the first time Google has partnered with a fashion designer.

The collaboration with the 67-year-old designer is a natural choice for the tech company as Diane von Furstenberg both has an influence on the industry and has previously shown support for the innovative product. Participants in her spring/summer 2013 runway show during the New York Fashion Week, including models, stylists, and makeup artists all wore a pair, while helping capture the show from a unique perspective. Another factor to be considered with this partnership is a return of the exclusivity of Google Glass, which had been lost a bit after more people were allowed to get ahold of the device. Only a limited number of the special edition items will be sold, but the actual number of available stock is undisclosed. Much like many other branded products, this version will feature the "DVF" logo found on the top corner, just like Ray Ban's glasses.

Although Google Glass will be coming in new colors and a new design, no less by the renowned designer herself, the company can only do so much as the bulky piece of metal that inevitably protrudes from the frame will still be there, being necessary to the device's function. Frame options, however, are available in different shapes and sizes. Still, there are those who are skeptical about the very idea of the Google Glass, especially with that price tag.
