Fight fans are still hoping to see a rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson later this year, but the second showdown might not happen at all because the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion wants to face Daniel Cormier.

UFC president Dana White said in an interview with UFC.com that Jones, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Glover Teixeira in April, is not interested in facing Gustafsson again.

White denied previous reports saying that they are currently negotiating a new contract, which is preventing the fight to happen. He insisted that the reason why the proposed rematch is not yet finalized is because Jones doesn't want to face Gustafsson again, and wants a fight with Cormier instead.

"Just to clear up a couple things, people think we're in contract negotiations with Jon Jones -- we're not. Jon Jones still has five fights left on his contract," White said. "So what we're doing right now is trying to get him to sign the bout agreement for Gustafsson. He doesn't want to fight Gustafsson. Lorenzo and I have a meeting with Jones on Thursday to get him to sign the bout agreement, and he's asking to fight Cormier instead."

Jones scored a close decision win over Gustafsson in September last year, but some felt that the 27-year-old challenger did enough to score a victory.

Jones' desire to face Cormier instead of Gustafsson stirred speculations that the 26-year-old champion, who has defended his title a UFC record seven straight times, is ducking the Swedish mixed martial artist.

Gustafsson called Jones out through a post on his official Facebook account.

"Jon 'Bones' Jones, be a man, be a champ and sign that bout agreement and stop running," Gustafsson wrote. "Keep in mind that after I beat you and become the champ I might be doing the same to you when you chase me for a rematch, as a revenge for not accepting my challenge."

Jones responded to the criticism thrown into him through a video posted on his Instagram account, saying that no one can dictate him on what he intends to do with his career.

"Asking for an undefeated Olympic wrestler, Strikeforce champion somehow makes me a coward? How about the fact that I beat Gustafsson already whether you guys like how close it was or not? It's my career, not yours," Jones said in the video, which he later deleted.
