Students and School Staff Tested Positive for THC after Eating Cake with Cannabis
Stocksnap

In Eskasoni, Nova Scotia, a group of children and the staff of a school were given a cake with cannabis, as reported by police.

In a recent report, Nova Scotia RCMP stated that the molasses cake that was served in the school contained THC. It is a toxic element found in cannabis.

After the cake was served, an adult was immediately sent to a nearby hospital on Friday. Adults and minors who ate the cake were also sent to the hospital after feeling unwell.

Some of the patients who were tested came out THC positive.

In an article by MSN, One of the patients was the 8-year-old daughter of Kate Augustine. Her daughter goes to the Eskasoni Immersion School. The school educates children from kindergarten through Grade 4. Eskasoni is approximately 40 km Southwest of Sydney, Nove Scotia.

Augustine was angry and disappointed with what happened to her daughter. However, she was thankful that her child did not experience a terrible anxiety attack or worse, a heart attack.

The mother shared how scared she felt. She also cried for her daughter who was unaware to have ingested cannabis during their school's event.

After going home from school on Friday, she noticed that her daughter was pale. She was also sweating. When Augustine asked her what was wrong, her daughter answered that she was exhausted. The mother even noticed that her daughter's eyes were sore.

When her daughter woke up the next morning, she noticed that her child was still groggy.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke stated that there were less than 10 people who got sick from eating the cake. A caterer outside the school provided the cake for the school's event on Friday.

According to Clarke, the information that she was certain was that the event was catered. However, they do not know who catered the event and provided the cake.

Clarke shared that she was unaware of the complete details of the incident. They are currently investigating whether the incident was intentional or not.

Augustine learned about the incident from another parent on Saturday. After her conversation with another parent, she immediately brought her two children to the hospital. Her 8-year-old came out positive for THC after being tested.

It was disappointing that she found out about the issue through social media.

Augustine was not contacted by any of the school's representative regarding the incident. She claims that she should've been informed by the school upon knowing about the incident where the students of the school were accidentally given food with cannabis.

Eskasoni School Board Social Media Statement

On Friday, the school was said to be celebrating a mid-winter feast.

In a Facebook post by the Eskasoni School Board, it revealed that cannabis (an edible type) was accidentally placed in the cake served in the school event.

In the social media post, the school advised anyone who was at the event, ate the food, and brought home some of the food served in the event to consult a medical center immediately.

Those who brought home food from the event were advised to destroy it immediately.

The chief of Eskasoni Leroy Denny revealed that he will cooperate with the council to act on the findings of the police investigation after all necessary information is collected.
