5.7-Magnitude Earthquake Knocks out Utah's Coronavirus Hotline
An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 rocked Utah's Salt Lake City region early in the morning of Wednesday, disrupting electricity to tens of thousands, knocking the coronavirus state emergency line, and disrupting public health laboratories in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak, officials said.
Utah Department of Health workers are advised not to show up to office buildings following an earthquake, despite the escalation of the coronavirus disease outbreak. The government health laboratory is also evaluated for potential damage and the operation of the research facility has stopped.
Following the earthquake, Gov. Gary Herbert had said on Twitter that the State coronavirus hotline that can be called by locals to request tests and look for information has been down after the quake.
Salt Lake County seems to have experienced the strongest trembling. According to Utah Emergency Management, this was the state's largest earthquake since 1992. In less than 20 minutes of the major earthquake, at least six aftershocks were reported.
Earthquakes of a magnitude greater than 5 are generally occurring in Utah once in every 10 years, and earthquakes of more than magnitude 6 taking place once in every 50 years.
As citizens in Utah adjust to changes caused by the disease outbreak, such as cancelation of classes as well as limitation of mass gatherings, the same as people around the world, the earthquake arrives.
People from Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada confirmed that the tremor had been felt. Gov. Gary Herbert advised the people to keep away from Salt Lake City town centre, whereas the rescue teams examined potential damages.
Many citizens ran away from home and in the streets when dishes tumbled off the shelves and photographs from the walls. No official injury report has been made, but the airport of Salt Lake City was closed out and the control tower as well as the entrances were evacuated, tweeted the airport. The earthquake stopped Salt Lake City and its suburbs also on light rail service.
Following the initial earthquake, the international airport of Salt Lake stated that a road to the airport was forced to close. The Federal Aviation Administration has said that inbound flights to International Airport Salt Lake were redirected as employees examined runways.

1992 St. George Utah Earthquake
On Wednesday, 2 September 1992 a 5.8 earthquake in the area of Washington, Utah, took place early in the morning.
Three houses have been damaged on the hillside. Citizens of some of the homes tried to seek shelter by car, however the boulders and cracks on the road hindered them. They dropped out of their vehicle and slid down the hill. The rescue teams assisted the residents of the second house down the hill. During the tremor, the third house was empty.
Telephone wires and lines were swept off by the landslide. And that there cracked a waterway below the road, next to Zion Park's south entry. For approximately 24 hours, Springdale and Zion Park had no electricity. The next day, however, the SR-9 remained shut.
